Top 8 Use Cases of Calculation Groups in Power BI — Part 1
Save time and boost productivity by making your reports dynamic

For someone like me, who started in the BI space by working on Multidimensional modeling and MDX scripting, using Calculation Groups in Power BI feels like coming home. Back then, it was called Calculated Members.
For those who are not aware of what Calculation Groups are, think of them like a basketball you recently bought for your kid. But your kid not only plays basketball with it, but also volleyball, football and other sports. The kid is reusing the ball to play other sports, thus saving you a lot of money and reducing your efforts of purchasing a new ball for each sport.
This is what Calculation Groups do. They allow you to reduce the number of calculations/measures in your model by increasing their reusability, thus saving you a lot on engine processing, memory, as well as your time and effort.
Earlier, it was possible to create Calculation Groups with the help of external tools like Tabular Editor, which required some additional effort.
But with the semantic model level exposure within Power BI Desktop (an update that came early last year), it has become quite hassle-free.
